Our martyrs

Students and graduates who were martyred in the Patriotic war!

Beginning on September 27, in response to another military provocation by Armenia, our army's successful counter-offensive operations, our people's 30-year longing for Karabakh, ended with the Great Victory and the liberation of our occupied lands. Under the leadership of the President of the Republic of Azerbaijan, Muzaffar Supreme Commander-in-Chief Ilham Aliyev, our brave army not only taught the enemy a lesson on the battlefield, but also showed the world an example of courage, fearlessness and patriotism. The unity of the people and power became one of the main foundations of this historic victory. In the political arena, the confidence of the Supreme Commander-in-Chief, our valiant army on the front line, our brave and fearless people forced us to accept the defeat of the occupying power.
In the 44-day Patriotic War, the brave Azerbaijani Army, in the true sense of the word, struck a cross on the enemy's chest, completely knocking the enemy to his knees. The sons of the fatherland liberated our lands from the bondage of the enemy at the cost of their lives and blood. There were those who were heroically killed in this War of Independence, and those who won the title of veteran.
To die for the homeland, to rise to martyrdom is the most honorable of deaths. Among the 2783 martyrs who were martyred in the Great Patriotic War and gave us victory with their martyrdom, the graduates of the Azerbaijan University of Architecture and Construction, as well as the College of Construction under it were specially selected. The tragedy of January 20

Twenty-eight years have passed since the events of January 20, 1990, which entered the history of the Azerbaijani people as a bloody January tragedy. The military aggression carried out that day by the military machine of the Soviet state remained one of the gravest crimes against humanity in history. The killing and wounding of hundreds of innocent people as a result of armed aggression against civilians fighting for national freedom and territorial integrity on the eve of the collapse of the totalitarian Soviet regime once again demonstrated its criminal nature to the world.
January 20 is a page written in blood in the history of Azerbaijan, but it is not just a tragedy. This date was the first peak of Azerbaijan's path to independence, the day of the awakening of our national ideology's desire for freedom. This is a glorious history in which the people living in captivity in the Soviet empire for many years raised their voices for freedom and showed courage for their sovereignty.
On the night of January 19-20, 1990, Soviet tanks were pushed into Baku. Before Soviet troops attacked unarmed civilians in Baku, they blew up the power block of Azerbaijan State Television, the only television channel at the time. The hated army, which left the people without television and kept them away from information, used the most modern weapons to seize the peaceful, disabled population. On that night, unarmed people challenged Soviet tanks, shielded their chests for the freedom and independence of Azerbaijan. Dozens of people flocked to the squares, unaware of the world, believing in the power of the Soviet army, the lie that they would not shoot at civilians, were killed, wounded and maimed. Thus, on January 20, 1990, the children of Azerbaijan wrote another bright page in the heroic history of our people, demonstrating to the whole world their determination to withstand the most difficult trials. The historical processes after the tragedy have once again confirmed the invincibility of the political will and aspirations of our people for independence.
Our people, remaining faithful to the traditions of national heroism, once again showed the world that they have the power to give martyrs for the Motherland. That night, in order to prevent the massacre and protest against injustice, several of our brave sons and daughters came against the blinded Soviet army and fell victim to enemy bullets. Among such patriotic and zealous sons were 4 students of the Azerbaijan University of Architecture and Construction. Let's get to know them.
Our martyrs
Babayev Fuad Yaver oglu

Babayev Fuad Yaver oglu - was born on August 14, 1967 in Baku, graduated from secondary school No. 54 in Baku. In 1984 he entered the Faculty of Construction and Economics of the Azerbaijan Institute of Civil Engineers. In 1985-1987 he went to military service in Czechoslovakia. Returning to the institute after completing his military service, Fuad Babayev resumed his education. During his studies at the institute, he distinguished himself from other students as a disciplined, educated and patriotic young man. On a bloody January night, Fuad Babayev, still a fourth-year student at the institute, shielded his chest against Soviet troops who came in tanks on a crowd shouting "freedom." The crowd gathered on the former XI Red Army Square in Baku and was shot by Soviet soldiers. As a result of this ruthless step against the crowd, some of the bullets hit Fuad Babayev, and he rose to the summit of martyrdom that night. Two days later, his body was found and buried in the Alley of Martyrs.

Gayibov Alasgar Yusif oglu
Gayibov Alasgar Yusif oglu - March 15, 1966 in Garachop village of Borchali district of the Republic of Georgia
He graduated from high school in 1983 and went to military service. After completing his military service, in 1988 he was admitted to the Faculty of Road Construction of AzCEI. When the events of January 20 took place, the young Alasgar was studying in the second year of the university. He, like his peers, was thrown into the squares to prevent this ruthless massacre against our nation. That night, Alasgar Gayibov assisted in transporting the wounded to hospitals after being shot by Soviet troops. However, in the merciless turmoil of the night, our unscrupulous student fell victim to injustice aimed at destroying the will of our people to freedom, and was hit by ruthless bullets.

On the night of January 19-20, 1990, he was in the squares like everyone else. That night, like other martyrs, he was a victim of atrocities and was shot at by Soviet weapons and rose to the heights of martyrdom. The holiday was buried in the Alley of Martyrs as the martyrs of January 20.

Muradov Mehman Asad oglu
Muradov Mehman Asad oglu - was born in 1961 in Goychay region, graduated from secondary school No. 3 with honors. As a patriotic young man in the events of January 1990, he also raised his voice in the squares, facing the rain of bullets fired by the Soviet army against civilians. Mehman, who climbed to the summit of martyrdom on the way to freedom, is buried in Goychay region.
Every year on January 20, President Ilham Aliyev, employees of government agencies, local and foreign organizations, our people visit the Alley of Martyrs, lay a wreath at the Eternal Torch memorial complex and honor the memory of our martyrs.
On January 19, 1991, for the first time, a memorial plaque was created with photos of martyred students of the Azerbaijan Institute of Civil Engineers Fuad Babayev and Alasgar Gayibov. Later, the glorious pages of the freedom struggle witnessed the bloody years of the Karabakh war. The patriotic and courageous youth of the institute left their education and went to war. During those difficult times, the institute received information from several martyred students.
On the initiative of the rector of the Azerbaijan University of Architecture and Construction, Honored Architect, Professor Gulchohra Mammadova, the "Heroes' Corner" was reconstructed on the first floor of the main building of the university in order to perpetuate the memory of martyred students and graduates.
