“Azerbaijan’s Transport Infrastructure Emerges as a Multifaceted Hub”: Rector Outlines State and University Expectations in Meeting with Future Transporters

Professor Gulchohra Mammadova, the rector of the Azerbaijan University of Architecture and Construction (AzUAC), continues her meeting with the university’s first-year students. This time, the Rector had a meeting with the transport faculty students.

Attending the meeting were vice-rectors, the dean of the Faculty of Transport, heads of faculty departments, teaching staff, and leaders of student organizations.

In his remarks, Dean Elchin Yusifzade expressed gratitude to the rector for holding the meeting with the first-year students and touched the significance of the meeting for the students and the organization of education and instruction. The dean noted that a total of 351 students were admitted to the Faculty of Transport in the 2023-2024 academic year, majoring in Land structure and real estate cadastre, Geomatics and geodetic engineering, Logistics and transport technology engineering, Transportation engineering, Transport construction engineering and Life safety engineering.

Rector Professor Gulchohra Mammadova started her speech by commemorating the martyrs who sacrificed their lives for our state’s sovereignty, as well as the martyred students and graduates of AzUAC, and urged the students to be patriotic, constantly excel in their studies, never stop improving themselves, and pick up new technologies quickly. The Rector stated that the primary responsibility of the students is to carry on the victory achieved by our Victorious Army in the 44-day Patriotic War under the leadership of the Commander-in-Chief, President Ilham Aliyev.

Professor Gulchohra Mammadova, who drew attention to the rapid construction of roads, tunnels, bridges, and other infrastructure in the liberated territories, urged the students to excel academically, pursue careers as engineers, and take part in the effort to revive our liberated territories.

Professor Gulchohra Mammadova said that there were great expectations from the future transporters. The rector noted that Azerbaijan, as a key player in the huge global initiative to restore the historical Silk Road, acts not only as a transit country, but also as an initiator and implementer of a number of transport projects: “What increases our functionality and importance as a transport corridor is that our country is not only a gate between the East and the West, but also an important corridor connecting the North and the South. Azerbaijan has shown serious political will and made investments for the formation of this corridor - transport infrastructure. As a result, both internal and external transport infrastructure has become a multifaceted hub. Of course, you, as qualified engineers and transporters, should support the political will expressed in this direction with your activity and closely contribute to safeguarding the economic interest of our country.”

The Rector then talked about the internal discipline policies and rules of AzUAC, as well as the obligations and rights of students, and touched on the exams held at the university, the arrangements made to ensure their objective and transparent administration, and the responsibilities that fall on the shoulders of the students. She called them to actively participate in the social life of the higher education institution, to establish close and business relations with student organizations.

Then the Vice-rector for Educational Affairs of AzUAC, Professor Akif Gasimov, delivered a speech in which he provided information about the organization of teaching at the university and the transparent examination system.

During the meeting, the rector provided detailed answers to all of the students’ questions, listened to their requests and suggestions, addressed their complaints, and made the necessary recommendations.
